PLATIANA

A village which is located at the slopes of a mountain with the its akropolis of ancient Epi on its peak. It is 16 km from Krestena and has 604 residents.

SIGHTS

HOMERIC EPI is located 5 km from the village.  It is on the top of a steep mountain . The view  is wonderful. From there you can see all of  Ilias, Kalavrita, Alpheios and the mountains of Zakinthos and Kefalonia. The akropolis wall  surrounds the plateau. It is built with huge stones and perfect structure.

In some places  it is 6 metres high and 2 metres wide. In the west and in the south side you can see some square towers which are built in the wall. The area, which is enclosed, is 475 metres long from west to east and 30 metres from north to south. A special feature is that it is divided into five levels. On the first level, which is the highest, the ruins of the Akropolis are distinguished. A part of a theatre, a stone throne, the ruins of a stage, the pedestals, a tank and the ruins of houses and temples are saved on the second level. There are the ruins of the "Agora" on the third level. In this place, there are the "Epi"  and the newer city of Tipaneon. There are the ruins of two churches: the Virgin Mary and Prophet Elias.

THE RUINS OF THE WALLS AND TOWN  at the castle of Paliokoubas, which is 3 km from Platiana..

THE REMAINS OF ANCIENT BUILDINGS at "Koutroleika" where statues were found.

THE RUINS OF ARTEMIS TEMPLE at "Kotretseika", which is 2 km from the village in a forest.
